Ironman Germany

Good luck to the 20 members of Warrington Tri who travel to Frankfurt this week to compete in Ironman Germany. The Warrington team numbers makes it the single largest team entry at the event.

NW Standard Distance Championships (Royles Deva)

Well done to all those who raced at the NW Standard Distance Champs this weekend. Warrington Tri again had several top finishers. Strong winds during the event caused times to be slightly slower then last year. The next in the NW Team competition is Boundary Breeze.

World Triathlon Championships

Well done to Jon Britton who represent Great Britain at the Age Group World Triathlon Championships in Vancouver on the 6th June. On what turned out to be the coldest June day for 54 years, the chilly sea water swim (11 deg) combined with the rain made conditions hard for all competitors. Jon finished in 23 position in the 35 to 39-year-old age group.

TIt's that time of year again and we will be holding our AGM on the 3rd April 2008 at Warrington Sports Club at 7:30pm. Please come along to have your say on how the club is run. The more people we get the better, and the easier, we as your committee will find it, to run the club as you want it.

If you feel you have something to offer the club there are 2 positions up for re-election this year and 2 new committee positions to be created. This will take the committee up to 8 people.

Both the positions of Chairman & Secretary are being vacated this year as the present members are not standing for these roles, so we are on the lookout for new people to fill these roles.

These roles are:

Chairman
Secretary
Committee member (New)
Committee member (New)

If you would like to apply for a particular role please contact the club, you will require a club member to propose and second your application.

The next in the NW Team competition is Boundary Breeze.

Maria Wins the National Aquathlon Title in Salford

Maria with Jon & Neil

The 2006 National Aquathlon Championships were held at Salford, on the eve of the Salford ITU Triathlon. Warrington Tri Club was represented in both the men's and women's races. The 2006 National Aquathlon Championships were held at Salford, on the eve of the Salford ITU Triathlon. Warrington Tri Club was represented in both the men's and women's races.

Maria Barret had another fantastic race in a very successful season. After a 9:46 swim (750m) she was third to exit the water and made up one position in transition. Leaving transition she was 25 yards behind the leader Emma Davis from University of Bath. Through a strong opening lap, Maria passed her and continued to push further and further ahead. By the end of the foruth lap (5km) Maria had a commanding lead and won 57 secs. She completed the run in 18:34 with a total time of 28:41. Total time Maria commented that the race had gone to plan, but the run ended more easily than she expected due to the lack of competition from her rivals.

Maria is now checking her availability for the World Aquathlon Championships later in the year.

Fergus Wiseman took part in the men's event and finished with a swim PB over this course of 13:25 and a run split of 19:56. The run course was longer than for the Salford Thursday Aquathlons and so this represents a PB here too. He finished in 50th position from a field of 85. "This was a much higher standard than we are used to in the North West", said Fergus - "itwas great to race amongst all these top class athletes."
